Hi, folks. I know this list hasn't been active in weeks and weeks, but I just read Ya-Ya, and I wanted to know: did Rebecca West appear on "60 Minutes" a few years back?

What do you do with a real life Vivi? [23 Jan 2007|04:12pm]

ever knew someone who you were sure missed their calling in life? well my mother-in-law is one of those people- she's one of the best actresses i've ever seen in real life... only she never made it to Hollywood (she lives outside of it) and she creates her drama in every day life. ok, seriously, ever watched Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood? She is the perfect imitation of ViVi... almost even to the way she looks- but most definitely how she acts. The cool thing about that movie is that in the end Vivi had friends who intervened and helped her see the truth and mend her dysfunctions before it was too late to salvage her relationship with her daughter. The bad thing about real life is that our hollywood mommy has pretty much ruined all her friendships and family relationships, so there's no one to intervene and help her fix her dysfunctions when she is about to ruin the only relationship that cares about her that she has left- the one with her son (and daughter-in-law). so we have tried to communicate with her, to no avail. she didn't listen and then hung up (despite our warning to her that if she hung up she would never see us or the coming grandson again). yep, she still chose to hang up. which was rather comical i might add- right straight from the seen where Sidda and her mom were talking on the phone in the movie- and mom hangs up and Sidda is crash banging the phone into the kitchen counter (justin threw his phone across the room where it bounced of the couch into the wall). but the sad part is that unlike the movie's happy ending, i don't think this one will finish this way. she will be all alone and our baby will never really know she existed... not because that's what we want, but because that's what she has chosen by her actions. she thinks by pulling all the manipulation strings that she will get her way- by saying she's so sick and what if she dies before baby comes that's why she wants to fly out here and wait for his arrival (if she's that sick she needs to stay home in bed- so that string doesn't work). she thought by recently buying the bedding set we wanted for baby that it would entitle her to demand what she wants from us. sorry. you can that bedding set if that's what you want. sure, we'd like to have the bedding set- but not with strings attached (strings aren't healthy for babies!). she thought by pulling out the "well, i thought you were supposed to be christians and honor your mother... if i could record this conversation and send it to your pastor!..." go ahead, send it to my pastor. he is going to laugh at your foolishness and pray for your eyes to be opened. suprise- jesus loves people enough that he wants to help them live a life without manipulation, guilt-trips or other dysfunctions! so you might want to pull that plank out of your eye before you send the convo to pastor to pluck the splinter out of ours. and justin apparently owes her everything, after all she did give birth to him! how could he do this to her? then she tried to blame my family for taking care of all of baby's needs cuz she felt left out... (she new about our registry before anyone in my family new about it). oh, she would have never asked her grandma not to come out for the moment of the birth of her children- she would have never asked that! so how can we ask that of her? well... you see Vivi, we are NOT you. you may not have asked that, but we are asking that. not out of hatred or any other maliciousness as you want to manipulate this into being, but simply because we need the space as we take care of us first. ugh, justin- the spoiled fruit of her womb that rotted! i tell ya... the drama is thick. so she calls back 30 minutes later, not to hear justin, but to say "fine, i love you guys and if you don't want me to be welcome in your lives, well...everyone makes mistakes. but i'll leave you alone and when i die i'll be buried out in South Dakota next to grandma and i don't want you to shed a tear. bye" She hangs up. All i can say is Vivi Vivi Vivi.... man she missed her calling. hollywood mommy missed her calling in life, and that's the saddest part of it all. if she could only thank me now, i have made her famous by posting her in my world wide blog! LOL. i find the whole thing amusing really, though i feel sad for my husband and really i feel sad for her that she chooses to live in her dysfunctions and misery... but i can only help those who want it. for now, i am here for my husband and for my first son. ...so what do I do with a real life Vivi?

Hello Ya-Yas! I, sadly, was only just now exposed to this tale. I feel like I'm cheating because I saw the movie before reading the book, which I usually don't do, but I'll read it next, I promise. I completely have a feel-good mood now, seeing those dear ladies who were friends their entire lives. How nice would that be, to really have friends forever? Never growing apart.

Anyway, I hope to be an honorary Ya-Ya, until I graduate and get a fancy name of course :)

Cheers-
~Melody

Hey -

I know this is completely ridiculous for me to ask for help and whatnot here, since I'm new and yadda yadda yadda. I know I'm an asshole... just listen.

I was supposed to read Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood for a class. It turns out, for my final, I have to write a 4 page paper answering an essay question about Ya-Ya. I had every intention of reading the book. I just never got around to it... I never had time.

SO. I am faced with this essay. I REALLY want to read the book, but I don't have time.
SO- I was hoping that somebody here would be able to help me or outline details that I need to know.

The QUESTION.

Compare and constrast the marriages of Buggy, Vivi, and Genevieve.

Then there's more technical stuff... but if somebody could just TELL ME ABOUT the marriages of Buggy, Vivi, and Genevieve I would be forever grateful.

I AM SO SORRY FOR POSTING LIKE THIS! I'M DESPERATE.

Any help would be appreciated, and I promise I WILL read the book the first chance I get.

and YES. I AM still in school, and YES, I am a SENIOR, and YES, I think it's crazy too. I don't graduate until next week.

Hey y'all! I'm Desirae, or Duchess Unruly Tresses, if you prefer. I'm from south Louisiana. I just finished reading Ya-Yas in Bloom, which might be my new favorite Ya-Ya book. (Who am I kidding, they're all my favorites!) Glad to have found this community. =o)

I am telling you, The Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood could be my life! I grew up in the south, where you belonged to either the redneck group, or the other group.....LOL. I sat down with my mom and dad and watched the movie with them, thinking they would either be offended because they recognized themselves in the movie, which didn't happen, or they would love the movie and laugh like crazy, which they did. My mother could be ViVi Walker! She has the worse phone etiquette on earth and I have been written out of her will 3, no 4 times that I know of! She is dramatic and sassy . My childhood mirrored Sidda's so closely that it was weird to watch the movie. My dad is so much like James Garner that it is uncanny. He is a cross between Ronald Reagan and JG, and a little Regis thrown in for good measure. I loved the books! I loved the movie! I would love to join yall's group just to chat...:O)

Hi! Newbie here (Viscountess Lost in the Clouds). Just wanted to see if anyone has read the new book (Ya-Ya's in Bloom) yet. I read it this week and loved it--by far my favorite of the three. I'd love to discuss it.

Hello everybody!! When I first watched the movie 2 years ago I fell in love with it. My two best friends(with whom I went to see it with) and I decided top make our own Ya~Ya sisterhood and we've been a united sisterhood for over two years now. Each one of us has a name, color, and sign. Mine is Arista Ana Starr, blue, and a star. I'm really glad I found a community of fellow Ya~Ya's!!

I finally finsihed reading the book and found I enjoyed it much more than the movie actually.

Little Shep Chapter... [03 May 2004|05:33pm]

Hello, everybody. I'm Courtney, I'm 22, and I looooooove the YaYas. Reading those books makes me really long for close girly companionship, ya know?

I've read both Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood and Little Altars Everywhere. I LOVED them both, but I do have a question for you guys about Little Altars. It'd be great if we could get a discussion about this going...

Just a warning to those who haven't read the book yet...spoiler-BIG spoiler-behind the cut.

The Little Shep Chapter:Where did this come from?Collapse )

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds! I'd really like people's opinions on this!

I am so frustrated and tired and I want to cry.

I want to thank everyone that commented about my son and how to boost my supply after his weight loss.

Right now he is refusing to nurse. He screams when I try to do it and I am not sure what to do. The doctors and nurses at the hospital said that I should keep nursing and my doctor said not to stop, but he is refusing my breast. I try and try, but he seems to not want it even when he is very hungry. When I give him a bottle he will start to gulp down the contents. I am so frustrated, but I don't know what to do.

I was told to try and give him the breast as a pacifier at first and try that. Just giving it to him when he cries to get him used to it again, but he is just screaming, not just crying, screaming, and he throws his head back and refuses. I know he is hungry and he won't eat from me. I have been pumping like crazy to boost my supply and even when I squirt my milk into his mouth he refuses.

I just need something to try. Anything that can get us back on track.

Thank you for the comments. I appreciate them.

Greetings. I'm Kris, a fourteen-year-old girl residing within the continental US (of all places).

I definitely enjoyed the "Ya-Ya" movie, but I was a fan of the books a few years before the film ever came about. So, I was a little antsy about bleeding the two books into one movie. I think that the studio did a more than credible job, although I wish they'd kept Sidda's elephant, and scrapped the airplane so to speak. Great movie, just the same.

So, for those of you who have know (and love) the books, which details do you wish they'd have kept in the film, or, for that matter, left out?

I loved the movie. I am going to pick up both books as I am an avid reader as well. I went to see the movie on a date. He told me about the preceding novel as well.
